About Us

Mission

Stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability worldwide, causing significant healthcare burden to the society. 1 in 6 people in the world will suffer from stroke in their lifetime. And ever 6 seconds, someone in this world dies of a stroke.  

Over the past decade, the rapid development of stroke therapies, including blood clot bursting medications (i.e. thrombolytic therapy) and clot removal techniques (i.e. endovascular thrombectomy), have revolutionized the management of acute stroke. The CU Stroke Angels is an initiative by a group of neurologists and researchers at CUHK, with a mission to enhance stroke service development and reduce burden of stroke in Hong Kong through three main areas:

Translational research
Critical review of disease trends and therapeutic advancements
Provision of professional education to healthcare service providers and general public

In the face of the rapidly changing healthcare landscape, the CU Stroke Angels strives to raise the awareness of stroke among general public, healthcare professionals and policy makers to enhance multidisciplinary collaborations, foster quality improvement in stroke care in the society.

2019

The Stroke Team and various departments of Prince of Wales Hospital, including Accident and Emergency, Neurology, Radiology and allied health to enhance the service quality for stroke patients by streamlining workflow and introducing new hardware, software and technology. The team has been awarded the Outstanding Team Award in the Hospital Authority.

2018

The Prince of Wales Hospital Stroke Team has been awarded the Outstanding Team Award in the Hospital Authority New Territories East Cluster. The team was formed by neurologist, radiologist, emergency physicians, occupation therapist and psychotherapist.

HIMSS-Elsevier Digital Healthcare Award

2013

The Department of Medicine and Therapeutics at The CUHK and the Department of Health Technology and Informatics at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University have jointly introduced TeleStroke, a unique system for 24-hour thrombolysis service, to facilitate neurologist's distant assessment for thrombolysis during non-working hours. TeleStroke was recognised by the HIMSS-Elsevier Digital Healthcare Award.
