Biography

Dr. Yannie Soo graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at CUHK in 2000. She underwent her Neurology training at Prince of Wales Hospital and overseas training in stroke neuroimaging in Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston. She has significant impact in steering stroke service development in Hong Kong. In 2012, she pioneered off-site intravenous thrombolysis using telestroke with iPad in Hong Kong, which won the Asia Pacific HIMSS Healthcare award in 2013. The technology and stroke service model has greatly facilitated the development of 24-hour thrombolytic service for acute stroke in other hospitals across the territory. Her research interests include cerebral microbleeds, ischaemic stroke related to atrial fibrillation and intracranial atherosclerosis, acute stroke therapies, stroke rehabilitation with external counterpulsation and robotic exoskeletal device, transmagnetic stimulation in stroke and Parkinson's disease. Her research aims to explore how detection of cerebral microbleeds with MRI brain can help identify patients at risk of treatment-related intracerebral haemorrhage and guide treatment decisions, particularly in patients with atrial fibrillation. Her work with CT perfusion, MRI plague morphology and external counterpulsation have also improved stroke risk prediction and stroke recovery in patients with intracranial atherosclerosis, which is the major stroke mechanism in Chinese population. She is currently the Principal Investigator of many international clinical trials and is leading a number of research projects supported by competitive grants.
